Obesity and lipoprotein disorders are the two main pediatric diseases which are associated with later major health problems (cardiovascular, diabetes, skeletal abnormalities etc.). Nutrition dependent diseases like the former are declared to be the most serious health problems in the European region by WHO. Moreover, prevention of preventable diseases early in childhood and adolescence must be the main goal of modern medicine. The coming Symposium organized by EAROC and the Austrian Academic Institute of Nutritional Sciences deals with these two core topics: one is “lipid metabolism of obesity in children and adolescents”, the other is the family of “familial hypercholesterolemia” in the young. Top-Speakers and Scientists have agreed to participate and therefore we are confident to be able to have an attractive meeting in an attractive location. Everybody who is dealing with these topics is cordially invited to submit an abstract and to participate. We really hope that we will be able to get more insight in this very important topic and also practitioners will have the opportunity to gain more knowledge for their young patients. Our message should be “deal with lipids and obesity in the young in order to prevent cardiovascular and other problems in adulthood”.
